Pachmarhi sanctuary

Named after the nearby hill station, Pachmarhi is the oldest reserve forest in India. It was established as a sanctuary in 1977. With systematic forest management and wildlife conservation, the park also has the advantage of geographical protection.

The western boundary is marked by the Satpura National Park and the Tawa reservoir, while the southern and eastern boundaries coincide with thick forests of the Chhindwara district. The high Bankhedi ranges make up for the northern range.

Pachmarhi is an archaeological treasuretrove. The caves in the Mahadeo Hills contain some fascinating rock paintings that are nearly 10,000 years old.

Also visit: The Catholic Church built in 1892 by the British. It's a fine combination of French and Irish architecture with brilliant stained-glass windows.

Priyadarshini Point is where Pachmarhi was discovered in 1857 by Captain Forsyth, a Bengal lancer in the British Army. The 350-ft tall waterfalls drops from the top of the Rajat Pratap hill. Also visit the sacred Jata Shankar cave.
