The Max Mueller Bhavan will present a set of eight films that have incorporated hybrid techniques and forms, creating new trends in the genre of documentary films from January 16 to 20, 6.30 p.m., 23, Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam.
"The documentary films show life as it really is beyond the propagandistic, educational or entertaining stylisations and productions that marked the history of the genre during the first half of the 20th Century."
Hybrid forms (a term that describes mixtures, combinations and link-ups) add on to this predominant idea of documentary film by an increasingly closer interconnection of television, films, new media and the development of video and digitalisation leading to tremendous changes related to the media.
In the 1980s and 1990s, particularly the younger generation of filmmakers tried out a large number of hybrid techniques that deliberately ignored traditional rules and boundaries between genres. The films presented in this series try to reflect such new trends.
The films to be screened are "Buenos Aires, My History" and "Divine Obsession" on January 16, "Hans Warns My 20th Century" on January 17, "The Last Documentary Film" and "Vagabonding Images" on January 18, "Master Game" on January 19 and "The Housewife's Flower" and "Vacancy" on January 20.
