Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Pongal Festival is back

The Coimbatore Kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) is conducting its annual Music Festival at its premises from January 12 to 16.
The start of the festival coincides with the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, India's apostle of culture and religion.
This is the 11th year that BVB is organising this event.
On January 12, the inaugural day, the title Sangeeth Samrat will be conferred on S. Dakshinamurthi Pillai, veteran nadhaswara vidwan. Dakshinamurthi comes from a family of renowned musicians like his father Padmashri Sangeetha Kalanidhi, S. Subramania Pillai and his uncles S. Nataraja Sundaram Pillai and Sangeeta Sahithya Vidwan S. Kalyana Sundaram Pillai, who were popularly referred to as Thiruveezhimizhalai Brothers.
They were also his gurus in nadhaswaram.
Dakshinamurti began performing at the age of 10.
He has performed across the world and has won many titles.
The honours ceremony will be followed by a vocal concert by sisters Ranjani and Gayathri. The music festival will also feature vocalists T.V. Ramprasadh, Sikkil C. Gurucharan and P. Unni Krishnan.
There will be a violin recital by Mysore M. Nagaraj and Mysore M. Manjunath.
Junior artistes will perform everyday at 4.45 p.m while the senior musicians will take the stage at 6 p.m.
On January 15, the Sadguru Shri Thyagaraja Aradhana Celebrations will see musicians and devotees singing the great poet saint's Pancharatna Kritis starting at 9 a.m.
All music lovers are welcome to join in. On the concluding day, there will be a lecture demonstration on `Musical excellence in the compositions of the Trinity', by Dr. Radha Bhaskar.
