The new `diktat'
As technology makes rapid progress and changes our lives, television continues to remain a threat to a section of the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC). Some of the members of the TFPC seem to be living in a different era as they continue to blame Tamil satellite channels for all their troubles. The TFPC's latest `diktat' is that clips from latest films should not be shown on any satellite channels as television is eating into box-office collections. It is shocking as a slew of Pongal releases are getting ready and if this new directive of the TFPC is implemented, two big movies Vijay's "Aathi" and Ajit's "Paramasivan" will not have promos. This comes at a time when television had played an important role last year in making "Chandramukhi", "Anniyan", "Ghajini" and "Sivakasi" blockbusters. In Bollywood, producers show the promos at least three months before the release of their films, while in Kollywood, a teaser trailer is aired only 10 days before the film's release! However, at a time when television creates awareness and recall value for films, a section of the Tamil film trade feels it is ridiculous for the TFPC to make such rules.
