Beat Street

Make way for CCR, David Gates and MLTR this season

Lights and Sounds

Yellow Card/EMI

After a debut indie release and double Platinum album, the band was into what lead singer/guitarist Ryan Key terms "distractions." So, after their 2003 Capitol debut, Ocean Avenue and touring that followed, Key and bassist Pete Mosely moved to New York City to do some song writing. The rest of the band joined over and they soon headed to LA's Sunset Sound studios. The result: an album that moves away from songs about break ups onto themes of artifice, war and adulthood with tougher guitars, intricate songs and a wider spectrum of musical styles, including a 25-piece orchestra conducted by violinist Sean Mackin.

It's only love

Various/EMI

Valentine's Day is exactly a month away but the season appears to have set in sooner this year. What with mushy ballads already vying for rack space. The compilation covers artists from various decades, a drop dead and sensitive George Michael (remember Father figure?), Roxette, the duo who churned a number that rules airwaves - Must have been love and Paint my love MLTR back to back. Lobo and Fleetwood Mac complete the set. All you need is to add a few roses and a card to this, for a cool gift option this V-Day.

The Long Road Home-The Ultimate Collection

John Fogerty/Warner

This one is for fans of the Creedence Clearwater Revival singer/songwriter and guitarist. A comprehensive retrospective, the compilation features for the first time ever, all of the songwriter's poignant hits. Find here decisive tracks from the Creedence catalogue, crème de la crème of his solo work and his Grammy Award winning Blue Mon Swamp. The bonus comes in the form of new tracks from his U.S. 2005 tour, especially the CCR anthem Fortunate son.

Best of

Bread/Warner

The original intent of this popular pop groups of the early '70s that produced a string of soft rock singles, was, "to make the '60s last a little longer." While their soft notes have continued to linger on beyond that, titles of their tracks have come to become popular clichés, Lost without your love and more. Find here numbers written by keyboardist/vocalist and session musician David Gates that remain as the band's legacy. Singles with complex melodic sense, delivered in breezy tone by one of pop's purest tenors, is what the compilation holds.
