A New Year begins?

"Devaki" tells the real life story of a tribal girl who is sold in Madhya Pradesh

TWIN REALITY Actors Suman Ranganath and Perizaad Zorabian, who star in the film

The experiment spree continues in Bollywood. In the very first week of the New Year, two films 15 Park Avenue and Devaki hit the screens.

Both the films have female characters leading the charge. If Aparna Sen's 15 Park Avenue questions the reality through a patient of schizophrenia, Bappaditya Bandopadhyay's Devaki is based on a real life story where a tribal girl was sold for Rs. 5000 in a village in Madhya Pradesh.

Devaki, a bi-lingual, which has been in news for quite some time, has been screened at many international film festivals and recently bagged the Best Feature Film Award at the Ashville International Film Festival. The film stars Suman Ranganathan and Perizaad Zorabian in lead roles along with Arvin Tukker and Ram Kapoor.

Devaki throws light on the fact that irrespective of the economic status and literacy levels, women are still treated as a commodity in our society. Suman and Perizaad represent the faces on the two sides of the spectrum.

The film's music, composed by Sameer. P, Bikram Ghosh and Amar Haldipur, is not for everybody though.

Brought out by Music Today, the album has three songs and rest all are background pieces. There is a strong rural appeal in the music for which Sameer. P deserves credit.
