For ethnic interiors

Ethnic artefacts are on show, at The Heritage, from today

WIDE ARRAY At The Heritage store

The Heritage, A-7, Anna Nagar East, has organised a fortnight-long exhibition of ethnic artefacts in different materials created by its in-house artisans.

Coinciding with the re-opening of its refurbished showroom, the arts and crafts store presents a range of intricately carved centre tables, side tables, lampshades, curio cabinets, consoles with mirrors and dressing table sets. These creations come in wood with hand painted terracotta tiles. Says Ragini Padmanabhan of The Heritage, "A few years ago, our artisans introduced the terra-batik finish. Painting on terracotta assumes a three dimensional effect. Aqua and jewel tones lend them a certain richness. This time, the artisans have worked on Egyptian themes for the wood and terracotta centre tables and consoles. Egyptian motifs blend so well in a medium like terracotta."

The showroom also has a collection of Rajasthani oil paintings, silk paintings, brass centre tables, water fountains which double as urlis, Tanjore paintings, abstract oil and acrylic paintings, Tanjore glass paintings, bronze figurines and Ravi Varma prints.

On show is also a range of masks in different shapes, sizes and expressions. From Egyptian to Indonesian, you get them all. Some even come in pairs. Stone carvings, carved wooden panels are also available. Other attractions include designer lamps priced Rs. 750 upwards, terracotta dolls (about three feet tall!) and ethnic murals.

The store is open on Sundays too. For details call 98400 70026/ 26191409.
