Crowning glory

Meet Sanvidha Shetty, whose luxuriant hair won her the Gladrags title

SAFE SPACE Sanvidha Shetty

She's 25, fair, tall and has luxuriant hair cascading down her back. She's also mature, confident and cautious. That is probably why Sanvidha Shetty made it the top 10 of the Gladrags Mrs India 2006 and bagged the Gladrags Mrs India Beautiful Hair title. The only South Indian to make it to the finals this time, Sanvidha is happy she's won the "biggest" national title for married women.

Sanvidha was among 60 contestants for the finals in Mumbai, got selected to the top 20, and then to the top 10. Sanvidha says the preparation for a contest is not all that easy. "It means hours of workout, grooming, make-up sessions, hair care and health regimen. You have to work at odd hours. It all looks good, but it's not an easy walk ." But she sure likes her long hair, doesn't she? She laughs: "I do!" Clearly, that's her pride. A doctor by profession, Sanvidha is in no mood to give up her profession. "These are simply two different things. Both require hard work. But medicine is my priority. I will be doing my post-graduation soon as I want to pursue a medical career."

Does she consider herself beautiful? "Well, it's about confidence, you know. Not just looks."

Sanvidha is all praise for her parents and her husband. She says: "My husband is amazing. Just great to be with. And yes, he's very smart too!"

Asked whether marriage has affected her modelling career, Sanvidha says, "Marriage is not a constraint. It makes you more responsible and mature. "
