Un `fair' ideas

The article, `In all fairness' (January 2) reflects our society's obsession with fair skin. The fairness ads on TV make tall claims and false promises and mislead young people. The campaigns seem to imply that success eludes the dark skinned girl and she can only prove herself if she is fair. I'm surprised that there're no strong protests raised against such ads. Stars should refrain from endorsing such beauty products.

My mother told me how my father was mortified when he was asked to bottle feed me as a baby at some function (`Some fathers do have `em', January 2). Times have changed now and fathers are not embarrassed to attend to their infants' needs, even in public.

Even if technology should completely take over the world, I will still not give up my habit of writing letters by hand (`A word in hand... ', January 2). The joy of receiving a hand-written letter is irreplaceable.
