Any common interest is a great binding factor. He introduced me to vintage cars and now I drive them almost as often as he does. Of all our vehicles, the Studebaker occupies a special place in my heart. I can drive this behemoth of a car, because I used to drive an Ambi (Ambassador for short). I think behind every woman who drives a vintage car, there is a man who spent valuable hours getting it ready for her. He saw through the restoration of our 1953 Studebaker from scratch to finish.

A wife deserves nothing less than the perfect gift. I was satisfied with the restored Studebaker, except for a side beading. I gave it to a guy who lives by bringing lacklustre beadings and grilles up to their shining best. Blame it on my stars, he misplaced the beading. For six months, I was after him hoping to see the elusive beading. One day, out of sheer desperation, he gave the keys to the godown. I lost hope when I saw thousands of beadings lying in disarray. After a futile search, I turned back to go — and I found the beading leaning on the wall behind the half-closed door.
