HEALING A HABITAT One of the species that can be seen at the Gurukula Botanical Sanctuary
NatureQuest presents an illustrated talk by Suprabha Seshan on the work done at the Gurukula Botanical Sanctuary in Wynad, Kerala, where techniques of forest restoration have been developed and implemented. It will be held on January 21, 6.30 p.m., at Bookpoint Auditorium, 160, Anna Salai.
At the Gurukula Botanical Sanctuary, for over 20 years, a small group of gardeners has been rescuing the flora of the region from degraded habitats and tending them in a botanical garden at the edge of a rainforest reserve. They have discovered ways to grow the plants and regenerate destroyed landscapes. Today, the sanctuary has over 2,000 wild plant species, including orchids and ferns, and a variety of birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects.
Through her presentation supported by photographs, Suprabha, a gardener at the sanctuary, will take the audience through the process of healing a wounded planet.
The programme is open to all.
