All for a holiday
The article "Hard work equals happiness" (January 12) was interesting. However, I don't agree with the last sentence, "When work is fun, why do you need a holiday."
I think a holiday or time away from work is essential. However engrossed one might be in one's work, a break is good for one's physical and psychological well being.
In the Army, I enjoyed my work and worked hard, sometimes round the clock for days together, but when it came to detaching myself from work, I did it, however reluctantly, forgetting my commitments for the duration of a holiday.
I therefore feel how much ever one enjoys one's work, a holiday is a necessity in the work culture of today. The pressure and stress ultimately takes their toll on the mind and the body, and a holiday is the only way to recharge oneself. If one is working hard for the lure of money and pretending to be enjoying it, it is foolishness because it is at the peril of your health. I am not commenting against hard work but about burning the candle at both ends.
