Energy packed event

URJA-06 was a crowd puller with its innovative events

HIGH ON ENERGY Innovations on display

URJA, synonymous with energy, is a term that aptly captures the bubbling enthusiasm and innovative spirit of the student community. Thus in many ways, the term URJA, also synonymous with Power, was an apt name for the two-day national-level technical festival conducted by the Electrical Department of the College of Engineering, Trivandrum.

Tech-fiesta

The national level tech-fiesta saw students from colleges all over Kerala and outside participate with incomparable enthusiasm. The tech-fest was packed with many innovative events that turned out to be successful. Standing testimony to this fact was the Robotics design contest, `Line Counter' which saw many techies competing for the honours. According to Manu Avinash who was the programme-in-charge, "Designing a robot to perform a particular function requires an in depth technical know-how and the competition is challenging."

Unlike any other fest of its genre, Urja organisers conducted a `Science fair' in which many top schools from the city took part. The highly innovative working models, such as a solar-powered miniature car, Tesla coil and water rocket presented by both school and college students, attracted many people to the fair.

Adding to this was the `space' exhibition put up by VSSC and an exhibition by the Meter Testing lab of the Kerala State Electricity Board.

Apart from this, regular technical events like tech-quiz, software coding, circuit debugging and so on stood out on account of their totally new style of presentation. The festival also threw open great opportunities with new events such as `Technical Wizard' and Electrical system design contest. For would-be managers, URJA had its share; the best manager contest, aptly christened The Firm, stood apart for its unconventional rounds.

Adding spice to the festival were the computer games and the informals section. "The informals arena is was really a place for people to unwind and enjoy themselves," says Ajayprasad, a second year student of CET.

The grand technical bonanza, came to a successful culmination with more than 30 colleges participating in the event. The organizers and participants would unanimously agree, the memories of URJA-06 are not going to fade away that soon
