The world in music: Various/EMI

Not long ago Enigma was a familiar name for people looking for hatke, read global sounds. Now Vanessa Mae and Yanni and now Dhol Foundation, Amr Diab and Susheela Raman are artistes sought after for world music.

The latter, known for her Salt Rain is the new flavour with music buffs for her fusion of East and West. This cover brings some of the best global sounds together. Lend an ear.

Dances of the World: various/EMI

This album brings rhythms from different parts of the world for the have feet will dance community. From mambo, popularised by Dean Martin, salsa — this one by our very own Kal Ho Na Ho — and flamenco to bossa nova and belly dancing, there is something for every genre buff. Yesteryear artistes KC and The Sunshine Band and Papa Wemba return with disco and reggae, not forgetting Jimmy Cliff and his Jamaican flavour. The cover comes with little notes on the dance forms.
