Kerala Samajam celebrated Christmas, New Year, Pongal and Bakrid

SONG AND DANCE A young girl performing at the programme

Is it possible for all in the audience to participate in a function? At the Kerala Samajam's four-in-one celebration of Christmas, New Year, Pongal and Bakrid, it was. Held at the Kamban Kalai Arangam, in the final event, an interactive game show conducted by Robin Chandok, everyone present in the hall participated.

Though the event started much behind the scheduled time, the game show evoked an enthusiastic response from the crowd. Balloons and gifts were given away to all present. The game show was preceded by a cultural programme presented by members of the samajam. Tiny tots dressed as butterflies and flowers conveyed the message that butterflies and flowers don't have long lives but they are harmless and also keep the environment beautiful.

Ananya Pankaj danced to the song "Raa Raa" from "Chandramukhi" and her younger sister, Amala, to "I am a Barbie Girl". Ashik, Ashish and Ashil performed a kaavadi to the fast number `Vel Muruga harohara Velayudha harohara', a popular Malayalam film song. A group of young girls performed an Opana, a wedding dance of the Kerala Muslim community. Saraswathi Amma, an elderly woman, sang the popular song "Kaathu sookshichoru kasthuri mambazham" and some in the audience joined in.
