GM discloses plans for three new cars

General Motors India has taken the wraps off three new products - the Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, the Chevrolet Aveo and the Chevrolet Optra SRV. All the three cars will be built at GM's Halol plant in Gujarat and will be put in dealerships across the country in the coming months.

The Aveo U-VA is a spacious, practical hatch that seats five in comfort and will compete with premium hatchbacks like the Hyundai Getz and the Maruti Swift. Penned by Italdesign's Giugiaro, the Aveo U-VA features the Variable Geometry Intake System (VGIS) like in the Optra Royale, which improves fuel economy.

The Aveo is a four-door saloon based on the U-VA platform, the Aveo, if priced right, should be worthy competition to the likes of the Tata Indigo and the Ford Fiesta. The butch-looking saloon includes a hood that is amongst the most pedestrian-friendly in its class.

The Optra SRV however, looks like it would open a new segment in the market. This hatch has a rather sporty profile with a lean silhouette, 15-inch alloys and is more driver attuned. At the same time, the SRV also houses a longish hatch at the rear, and this combined with the 60-40 split folding rear seatback, equals to very roomy interiors. Prices are yet to be announced; watch this space!
