Over 100 participants vied for the title in the recent Samayal Rani contest

A contest for cooks - and this time not only for women but also for men! The third edition of the Bharatgas Samayal Rani 2006 Contest was organised on Republic Day at Hotel Green Park in the city. There were more than a 100 contenders for the title and each had to make a four-course meal from any four States of India, as the theme of the event was `national integration through food' to mark Republic Day. The top 10 scorers also had to participate in a "Krown Banega Samayal Rani Quiz. For the first time, Virgo organised a cookery contest exclusively for men. With more and more women going to work, men are increasingly helping their wives in the kitchen, and in some households turning out to be better cooks than their wives. Hence, the "Sakthi Nala Raja" contest for men. Twenty men participated to prove their culinary skills. Besides, there was a family event too - A Club Mahindra Arusuvai Kudumbam contest in which the contestants prepared a salad on the spot.
While the Samayal Rani title went to Parimala, the Nala Raja title went to Sreenivasan P. The contest was packed with entertainment too with Senthil drawing laughs from the audience with his mimicry. Robot Ganesh dressed as King Nala Raja also kept the audience entertained, relinquishing his crown to the winner of the Nala Raja contest.
