ASK SHAHNAZ

My lips are quite dark. Please help me to get rid of that. - Radhika Moorthy

You can apply a little almond oil daily on the lips and leave on overnight. Once a day, apply cream of milk and leave for half an hour. Use only good quality lipsticks. Sometimes, the perfume used in lipsticks can cause discolouration.

I use henna for my grey hair. After henna my hair feels very coarse although I use conditioner. I use neem oil treatment once a week by soaking overnight and washing my hair in the morning. Are there any other natural products in the market that can colour hair without Ammonia or Hydrogen Peroxide. I shave almost every day during summer. I don't like waxing. What can be applied to the legs to get a smooth texture? - Sujatha Kumaraswamy

Not much is know about the exact causes of greying. Some physicians feel that it could be related to the immune system. So, they suggest Vitamin C and B-Complex supplements. Amla is also said to check greying. You can take the juice of one raw amla, added to a glass of water, daily. You can add two teaspoons hair oil to the henna paste. Henna is the only natural hair colourant. You can add dry, powdered amla to the henna paste. Nowadays, you can get semi-permanent hair colourants, which do not contain Ammonia. These cause less damage than permanent dyes and colourants. However, repeated hair colouring with chemical colourants will damage hair.

You have not mentioned why you do not like waxing, because it is the best way of removing hair. Most salons use a lemon and sugar mixture, which also benefits the skin. You can apply til oil daily before bathing. Scrub the legs with a loofah or rough towel while bathing. Immediately after bathing, apply a cream or body lotion. Shaving daily will make the skin rough.

Are there home remedies for reducing black heads. - K. Sreepriya

Blackheads occur on oily areas when the skin's natural oil hardens and collects in the pores of the skin. You can mix rice flour with curd. Apply it on the areas with blackheads and rub gently. Leave it to dry for a few minutes and wash off. This should be a daily treatment. If the blackheads are stubborn, get them removed at a beauty salon and follow the daily facial scrub treatment.
