Does Numaish still retain its charm?
Old memories
Numaish is an Urdu word and it means exhibition, which has a special charm and significance for Hyderabadis. When it was started, the objective was to make goods available to the public alongside a festival. It offered some wonderful discounts to promote sale and business as well as people's buying power. Things have changed over the years for the Numaish. Today, the younger generation finds malls and coffee bars swanky, dust free and rather cool alternatives. Local exhibitions, like the ones at Shilparamam or Necklace Road have also dampened the spirit of participants in the Numaish, with quite a few regulars pulling out of the fare. Nevertheless the exhibition will continue to remain a major source of family entertainment for the Hyderabadi folks. Maybe because old forgotten memories ring in the air as one meanders through make shift stalls with an ice cream or a bag of masala popcorn.
