For the youths

To make life more interesting

Youngsters refuse to be tied down to academics these days. They need variety and dance and music are of course good options that break the monotony of their daily routine life.

Thankfully, the Beats Meets Arts Academy, which opened at the Salai Road in the City recently, is a venture by a few youths just out of college to popularize different art forms.

Classes in western, classical and folk dances and karate, theatre, aerobics, music and painting are all part of the start-up offer.

"Western dances are of course more popular here. For college competitions, we just give a mix of break, jazz, disco or perhaps a bit of hip-hop and ballet too. Now the trend is to give fast track numbers," observes K. AzeemKhan, who teaches western dance.

Students could also look forward to grooming their theatre talents here with Udhaya Kumar, who has in his kitty a string of successes in various intercollegiate competitions already.

His themes range from the problems of the Sri Lankan refugees to the portrayal of the mental and emotional state of victims of atrocities in the recent past.

While college students see the academy as a good place to learn to mix music and a few novel things, the kids see it as a forum to imbibe a hobby such as painting.

"It's just a place where you can learn different things under the same roof. More such places would do the young folks much good," wishes D.R.Bala, who runs the place.
