The exhibition of paintings by French artist Elzevir depict life around us
|
Rickshaw drivers, security men, students, businessmen and body builders are normally not subjects of interest for artists. For French artist Elzevir, this is not the case. Elzevir's exhibition of life-sized portraits, organised by Alliance Francaise, Trivandrum, depicts people from all walks of life. The exhibition is on at the Museum auditorium and on the premises of Alliance Francaise.
The big picture
At Alliance Francaise, it is a series of life-size oil portraits titled `On the beach,' `Culture' and `The most beautiful day.' `The most beautiful day' depicts French women on their wedding day while `On the beach' has sun worshippers frolicking by the sea and Indian pilgrims taking a dip in the Ganga. The exhibition at the Museum has small paintings by Elzevir, called `The Indians' and `The Hybrids.'
These are paintings of every day life. People catching forty winks at a park, dogs sleeping on benches... The paintings jelled well with the Museum surroundings as one could see a figure or two taking a quick nap under the shade.
Elzevir is settled in Saint-Etienne. The painter spent time in Pondichery for his paintings as part of a cultural exchange programme organised by Alliance Francaise.
