Dinner by candlelight

Unwind over a candle-lit dinner

It is night. The palms are swaying gently in the breeze. There's soft music in the background. Water flows from an artificial waterfall into a pond.

A charming bridge cuts across the pond. Tables are set and the area is lit by the soft glow of candlelight on each table. A perfect setting for a romantic dinner or to just unwind.

Park Field Gardens, Vazhuthacaud, has introduced candle-light dinners at its lawn in the evenings.

A la carte

The menu is a la carte and one can chose from Indian, Chinese and Continental. Under Indian, one can pick from fares like kebabs, biriyanis and rotis while in Chinese, one can choose from various Chinese specialities like Chicken garlic sauce, Chow chow vegetable, Hakka noodles and Singapore Meifoon. Continental offers a wide range of steaks and grills.

We decided to go for a mix of Chinese and Indian. As starters, we had Dragon Chicken (Rs. 95), shredded Chicken dipped in chilli sauce, coated with sesame seeds and fried, and Hot and Sour Chicken soup (Rs.30).

The soup was hot and tangy and the dragon chicken was spicy with its slightly generous use of chilli flakes.

The Chinese Chopsuey (Rs. 80) was filling with its vegetables, prawns and chicken. Soft chappatis with succulent Reshmi kebabs (Rs. 95) and mouth-watering Mutter paneer (Rs.85) made a gastronomic delight.

Dessert

For dessert, try the Cool Kairali (Rs. 50), which has vanilla ice cream served with hot chocolate sauce, topped with nuts and shredded coconut. The Crepe Coco (Rs. 65) a pancake stuffed with cardamom-flavoured coconut topped with vanilla ice cream served with hot chocolate sauce is a good choice too.

Desserts like gulab jamuns, ice cream and fruit salads are available too.

Those who prefer to have a candle-light dinner in the restaurant can do so.

A candle is lit at the table and one can enjoy their meal by it. But the lawns are definitely the place to head for.
