Osteo-arthritis camp by Dr. Vijay Naik
|
The PNR Society for Relief and Rehabilitation of the Disabled, 51, Bhavnagar, Gujarat will be back in Chennai on February 24, 25 and 26 with its 13th osteo-arthritis camp. It will be guided by Dr. Vijay Naik and his team of technicians at Mahaveer Bhavan, 77, Pillaiar Koil Street, Triplicane, Chennai 600005.
Pre-registration for appointment will be on February 12 at the same venue between 9 a.m. and 12 noon on a first-cum-first-served basis. Patients who are already wearing the knee braces need not register afresh. They can visit on February 24, 10 a.m.-12 noon and 3 p.m.-5p.m. for check-up. Arthritis affects the joints or the tissues around the joints. Basically, there are two types of arthritis - osteo and rheumatoid. Osteo-arthritis is the most common and affects 80 per cent of senior citizens. Painful knees are the result of the breakdown of cartilage inside the tissue that cushions bones. Dr. Naik, consulting prosthetist and orthotist, treats this problem using a polycentric knee brace, an orthotic device, which helps decrease pain, provides support to unstable joints and stops further deterioration. Besides being cost effective, it does away with the need for surgery.
