Tamil Kalai Mandram's achievement
HONOUR I.V.L.Sastry being felicitated during Purandara Dasa aaradhana organised by Kaveri Kannada Sangha in Visakha patnam
Tamil Kalai Mandram recently organised a function to mark the inauguration of its newly constructed building `Bharathi Mani Mandapam' in Seethammadhara.
The Mandram, which was originally called Tamil Sangham, started functioning in 1903 and after some time it became South Indian Sangham to accommodate other linguistic groups like the Malayalees, Kannadigas and also Telugus. It was conducting mainly community-related services, cultural and sport activities under the expert guidance of its successive presidents, all stalwarts in their respective fields. As most of the linguistic groups other than the Tamils formed separate associations by 1994, it was taken back by the Tamilians and was renamed as Tamil Kalai Mandram. The Mandram under the able and dedicated leadership of R. Sampath (Chief of Bureau, The Hindu, Visakhapatnam till very recently) celebrated the centenary of its precursor (Tamil Sangham) on a grand scale in 2003, secured a site on lease from VUDA and constructed a building provided with a big hall that could be used as an auditorium, meeting and function hall.
Kaveri Kannada Sangham
Commemorating the 442nd vardhanthi of the saint singer Purandharadasa, Kaveri Kannada Sangha organised a devout aaradhana in its auditorium, Kaveri, last Sunday.
It got off to an auspicious start with the rendering of devotional music by Venkata Rao of Parimala Bhajana Mandali. Later, at the meeting with its president Prabhakara Rao in the chair, felicitated the founder Kulapathi of Sageetha Janakulam and octogenarian musician of high esteem I.V.L. Sastry.
VMDA president, C.S.N. Raju was guest of honour. Eminent vocalist, B. Arundhathi Sarkar supported by veterans, Komanduri Krishnamachari on violin, Vankayala Narasimham on mridangam and Mandapaka Ravi on kanjeera rendered an absorbing recital of the Sangeetha Pithamaha's compositions.
While Shantala Rao attractively compered the programme, MLV Sarma proposed a vote of thanks.
Ivaturi Charitable Trust
Ivaturi Charitable Trust, a service organisation celebrating its anniversary, conducted a light and devotional music recital by Yogacharya G.Vedabhaskaram and young Lalitha who was the cynosure of all eyes with her pleasant stage presence and sweet range in the voice.
Ably supported by Bandaru Chittibabu on harmonium, Ramana Murthy on tabla, Koormanatham on flute and Durga Rao on keyboard, they together and individually sang compositions of Annamayya, Rama Das and Meera besides lyrics of modern poets.
