Designer dreams

Chandigarh-based designer Vimi K Singh has designs on Hyderabad homes

HOME AFFAIR A collection of bed covers, curtains, table linen and more

Winter isn't over, not yet. So it still isn't too late to splurge on a comfy quilt. In case you are looking for one, how about checking for some unique ones that have been meticulously embroidered? Chandigarh-based designer Vimi K Singh has brought to town a whole range of embroidered home accessories, labelled Navya Zari. "It's my first exhibition in Hyderabad. During my last few exhibitions in Delhi, I've had a lot of people from Hyderabad appreciating my work and buying them. That's when I thought I should actively gauge the market here," she informs. Vimi's collection tries to tap into the growing market for interiors in the city and comprises bed covers, bed sheets, curtains and table linen in cottons, silks and synthetics.

"Each piece of machine-embroidered bed linen takes anywhere between 10 to 12 days to make, while hand-embroidered ones take much longer. Nowadays, with more people beginning to take a keen interest in doing up their homes in style, there is a lot of demand for customised home linen. Also, customers prefer to buy unique pieces than choose from the retail stores. Which is why, you will never find too many similar pieces in my work," adds Vimi.

For those of you who love to add that little extra to your homes, there are also embroidered lampshades and photo frames. The bedspreads are priced between Rs. 2,200 and 6,500, the cushions range between Rs. 175 and 900, the lamps come for Rs. 800-900, while the coasters cost Rs. 100.

The exhibition is on at Also, White House, until February 4.
