There was loads of fun at JIPMER's graduation ceremony

After five and a half years of studies and fun, it was time to say goodbye. The graduation ceremony at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) held recently was a colourful event. At the pre-grad ceremony, held two days before the graduation day, students and lecturers sang and danced together to make it a memorable day.

"In the mornings we teach students and in the evenings they teach us to dance. It's fun and all teachers participate in one way or the other," says Dr. Karoon Agarwal, HOD Plastic Surgery, who danced to a song from the Hindi film "Don". Dr. Srinivasan dressed like Vikram in the "Oh Sukumari" song from "Anniyan" danced, followed by a few other lecturers shaking a leg to "Kajra re Kajra re" (Bunty aur Babli). It was quite a rare sight! "I have studied in different places, but this kind of an event is unique to JIPMER," says Dr. Karoon.

As for the graduating students, in their trademark black tees and jeans, they watched all the goings-on and had their share of song and dance too.

At the graduation ceremony, for each graduating doctor and BSc MLT student, the compere Akash read out funny four liners. Sample this: About Pintu Kumar Singh - This cute guy is our Bihari Spiderman - on a chess board you can't beat his game plan - amidst the fair sex he's always in distress - inseparable from his cell phone, he's Pintubhai SMS!

Then came the solemn moment — the students receiving their scrolls. As they stepped off the stage, roses were pinned on their robes, as parents and lecturers looked on with pride.
