Path-breaking

Award winning writer "Vedam Puthithu" Kannan has turned director with "Amirtham", a path-breaking film with a good story, lovely music (Bhavatharini) and great performances from the lead actors. Kannan who has worked with K. Balachandar and Bharathiraaja has tried to make a film within the commercial parameters of Tamil cinema. Girish Karnad as the temple priest comes through powerfully. Navya Nair has dubbed in her own voice for the film. Carnatic singer Anuradha Suresh Krishnamoorthy, Ganesh, Rajiv and Rekha form the rest of the cast. The music by Bhavatharini is soft and soothing and Ilayaraja has sung a classical number. The locations _ Melkottai, Varanasi, and Haridwar _ are eye-catching. "Amirtham" is a brave attempt at good cinema by Kannan
