Dads take care

Directors are launching their children with much confidence

It's the turn of Pandiarajan now to launch his son Prithvi as the hero in his directorial venture `Kai Vantha Kalai'.

The actor-director is back after a layoff and is certain that the movie will give him the much-needed break. For nearly two decades Pandiarajan has had his own style of making films, which have been thorough entertainers. Though he promises to stick to his style, Pandiarajan says the film would be to the liking of the present generation as it has all the commercial ingredients. "Over the years things have changed a lot - be it technical aspects or the work atmosphere. But I have prepared myself for the situation and I assure that `Kai Vantha ... would be a family entertainer," he said during a visit to the city.

Excited with the project

He also claims that he has no problem competing with the young crop of directors. Pandiarajan says his son is very excited with the project and is ready to give his best, although he admits there is an element of fear in the youngster as it is his debut film. "That is there with everyone. But I am confident of his abilities. Prithvi can consider himself lucky, for I am always there to guide him," he says.

Apart from entertainers, Pandiarajan also tried his hand in making a short film, `Magan' which dwells on child labour.

"I never wanted to be branded as a commercial film maker and `Magan' was one step in that direction. And the reception it got from audience at the International Children Film Festival gave me complete satisfaction."

He plans to make a similar film in the near future. Pandiarajan still remembers the good old days he spent as an associate of K. Bhakyaraj. Incidentally, both of them are launching their children at the same time — Bhakyaraj is making a film with his daughter. "It just happened like that. Since we are doing films after a gap it would be nice if both our ventures turn out to be a huge success," Pandiarajan parted with a smile.
