Over the Moon

Now have a dash of Malayalam in Indi-pop with Bobby Moon

This album is totally based on my instincts and pure sense of music

THE RIGHT MIX! Bobby says his songs are a reflection of a blend of culture

Malayalam Indi-pop. Never heard of it? Bobby Moon is the first such artiste. An American of South Asian origin, he has come out with his debut album `The Rising.' The video of his first single `Sundari' has already hit the small screen. He has scored the music as well as written the lyrics.

`Sundari' has been sung in three languages: English, Hindi and Malayalam. The remaining songs are all in Hinglish or the indi-pop language. These include certain retro tracks like `O Mere Dil Ke Chain' and `Mere Sapno Ki Rani.'

"My remixes are tributes," says the singer, who does not have formal training. "This is my respect for the music. They are a different version, with little bit of me in it."

He adds, "This album is totally based on my instincts and pure sense of music." It has not been an overnight success. For the past five years he has been working hard to come up with his best 14 tracks. "I have come up with what I love, without thinking of what's going to sell."

He has performed in various places, including the Channel V concert last year where more than 20 artistes performed. He avers that he would go slowly about cutting another album, as he wants to come up with something meaningful.

"Each song of mine weaves a story and is not just cluster of words on paper." Besides Malayalam he can converse in Spanish too.

Bollywood calling

He has already taken his first step in Bollywood. He sang the title track of N.R. Pachisia's latest movie `Jawani Diwani,' which features Emraan Hashmi and Celina Jaitely. This song has already made the news and it is on everyone's lips.

"My songs, whether in movies or albums are a reflection of me and a blend of culture," says the singer.

Although his kitty is pretty full, this new chap seems to want to conceal the information for the time being. He will be performing around the country till February.

To follow his dreams he left his job as a financial consultant in a tax firm in the United Kingdom. He worked for two years after obtaining a degree in Finance from the University of Texas.

"At that time it was almost like chasing a ghost but I am lucky today to release my album," says Bobby.
