Love is in the air

Eateries and gift shops are set to make Valentine's Day a day to remember, writes Sajini V. SAHADEVAN

PERFECT DUO Figurines ideal for the Valentine's Day season all set to steal one's heart

It is that time of the year again when Cupid sends his arrows flying all over the city.

Lovers are on a shopping binge, all for that one special day called Valentine's. It is a matter of proving your love in a way as unique as possible and to impress your beloved.

The gift shops in the city are all decked up in a colour red mode with an assortment of articles waiting to be picked up and sent off with a love note.

Heart chains

Archies Gallery, one of the leading dealers in gifts has its store festooned with red heart chains.

On sale are a variety of gifts including adorable soft toys with love messages, quotation plates, photo frames, ceramic coffee mugs, and jumbo size cards. "Soft toys are in demand. A majority of our customers for Valentine's Day consist of teenagers and college students. Last year, we had fresh flowers brought in for that particular day, as there were many takers for flowers ," observes Ajit Kumar, a staff at the store.

This year the store also houses a brand of decorative fairy figurines available as photo frames, candle stands, clocks and penholders just right for a Valentine gift.

Dreamz, another outlet has a similar cache of items along with heart-shaped `hug-me' cushions and volumes of love song albums. Style Plus has the immensely popular candy dolls, wind chimes and key rings to suit the occasion. Depending on orders received, the store intends to have fresh roses for the day. Sparkles, a gift and jewellery store, offers a range of statuettes as gifts .

Delectable surprises

Food joints like Ambrosia and Coffee Beanz will also include delectable surprises on the menu.

"We will definitely introduce new varieties of coffee and other eatables for Valentine's Day," says Tom Thomas, Managing Director of Coffee Beanz. With eateries planning to include specialties, couples can now look forward to exchanging gifts and a feast to remember.
