Unveiling Maulana Azad
|
An attempt to revive the fading memory of a stalwart
|
The first-ever play on Maulana Azad's life, times and scholarship, Maulana Azad, will be staged in town this weekend.
The solo play has "Urdu-speaking Angrez" Tom Alter playing the lead. Written and directed by M. Sayeed Alam of (Ghalib in New Delhi, Big B and K.L. Saigal fame), it is brought to stage by Pierrot's Troupe, a Delhi-based theatre group known for original and topical plays.
The play comes to life against the backdrop of Maulana Azad dictating notes to Humayun Kabir for his book. While talking about the book, largely political in theme, Maulana often digresses to topics ranging from white jasmine tea to Taj Mahal, music and Mecca. This makes the play particularly colourful.
The play is at Ranga Shankara, J.P. Nagar, on February 11 and 12 at 7.30 p.m. Call 26592777 for details.
