MY KIND OF PLACE -- SARATH KUMAR
THE ACTOR SPOKE TO CHITRA SWAMINATHAN
LONDON
Annual sojourn
Once a year, generally in June, I make a trip with my wife and kids to London. It's the most cherished trip for me because there are no "camera, action" calls, no applying of grease paint and no being watched by curious onlookers. You get to spend quality time with the family. Those few days, I am just myself and live the way I want to.
Temporary settlement
We generally hire an apartment; do our own cooking, cleaning and grocery shopping. As we don't get a chance to do them all in Chennai, we enjoy the relaxed routine. Except for daily needs, I hardly go on a shopping spree in London. May be I would just pick up a few tees and jeans. These days you get most international brands in India.
Rejuvenating walks
Besides catching up with some of my old friends settled there, I love to go for walks in the beautiful parks. It's nice to have such small clean and green areas in a bustling city. That's something we should have here too. Then we also go on long drives and visit restaurants. I am comfortable with all kinds of food.
For my wife's sake
This June, my wife and I will be in Chicago as we have been invited to participate in the World Tamil Conference. From there, we plan to take off to Spain, a place she has not seen and wants to visit. Of course, London does figure on our itinerary.
