THE MULTI-FACETED The late Anil Saari
I come to you/ with a body full of greed and a mind/ full of ego/But I also come with the desire/that you will keep my hopes alive/ that somehow/in coming to you/I shall be able to preserve/my sense of future/and a search for the truth...
Anil Saari
The name Anil Saari brings to the minds of many, particularly from the journalistic fraternity, a whole lot of memories. A poet, playwright, sports writer, film critic, columnist, multi-faceted Saari, chose to sleep for eternity on October 5, last year, but still evokes reminiscences in people who knew him, stretching from being warm to maverick to even being self-destructive.
Poetry session
At a poetry session in remembrance of Saari at the Academy of Fine Arts and Literature in New Delhi the other day, one witnessed quite a few people getting up from the assembled crowd to talk about him. If one chose to talk about his writings, another picked a line or two from his free-style verses and yet someone else opted to reflect on his intense eyes and that carefree laughter. His wife and journalist, Rashmee Sahgal said, "it was as though the force was with him." Also, in tribute to the man, who once served dailies like The Hindustan Times, The Pioneer, The Patriot, Screen etc, wrote analytical pieces on Bollywood and beyond, and penned the interesting book of poems, "Nomads And Other Moments", as many as 19 artistes put up their works for an exhibition at the Arpana Art Gallery.
