YET ANOTHER Balli Dilber
Music for some does not remain just a part of life but becomes life itself. For instance, this new singer from Punjab, Balli Dilber who says, "After silence, something that comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music."
Balli, who lives in Delhi, says he wanted to become a singer since childhood.
"I was fond of listening to Kishore Kumar and I love to sing Hindi songs," says the crooner. But when he heard Harbhajan Mann's `Hayye Meri Billo Ni', he "got inspired" to come out with his own Punjabi bhangra music album. Golden Melodies Private Limited, the music label associated with the launch of megastars like Daler Mehndi, Mika, Baba Sehgal and Silk Route, has justlaunched the debut album of this bhangra singer, "Nach De Sardar".
It organised a fun-filled evening to celebrate the occasion, which also had model Sneha, who features in the video of Balli's album, at The Park in New Delhi.
Talking about his debut, he says, "I have focussed on the young generation and tried to use rap and hip - hop music in it. I want all the young people to dance to my music. This album has all dance numbers and no sad scores. They can take it as a Valentine gift from my side."
Balli has done various stage shows since his college days in India and abroad. Sharing his experience on the stage, he says, "I had been to London to perform. The moment I said, `Mere Hindustani Punjabi bhaiyon... , the audience screamed saying, `Please don't separate us from one another .We all are one.' The incident made me realise that singing in Hindi and Punjabi doesn't matter. What matters is that you sing what you believe in. And the music doesn't belong to any one community or religion." That's why, he says, "While I was preparing my debut album I took care that don't do it only for Punjabi speakers but also for non-Punjabis."
Dilber is expecting his second album within four months. And for now, he is keeping his fingers crossed waiting for people's feedback on "Sardar Nach De".
