ELEGANT WEAVES A glimpse of Ghanshyam Sarode's collection
Kalamkari, Gadwal, Uppada, Ikat, Khadi, salwar suits, unstitched fabric and more... Hyderabad-based Ghanshyam Sarode is displaying a collection of handloom saris and fabrics from Andhra Pradesh in an ongoing exhibition at Amethyst, Sundar Mahal, 14/30, Padmavathi Road, Jeypore Colony, Gopalapuram.
Gadwal Saris are unique to the eastern Central Deccan, Gadwal. Most of these saris are woven with interlocked weft borders of contrasting colours. Of late, new designs have been introduced for a touch of variety. Kalamkari, a textile tradition that flourished in Srikalahasti, comprises hand drawn and painted fabric using a kalam (bamboo pen), and was originally created for temples to serve as narrative murals. They tell stories from the Hindu Epics in picture form. The artists are now branching out and have come up with a Fantastic Birds series to commemorate the Centenary of Salim Ali, Father of Indian Ornithology.
The display can be seen between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily.
