A KIND WORD Can work wonders
The stage was set and in sashayed models spreading the message on social issues.
If students from Sir Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science used black, red and white colours to promote AIDS awareness, those from NGP College expressed the need for a clean and green environment through other colours dull white for polluted air, indigo for water pollution, deep orange for infertile soil, light blue with spots to explain the depleting ozone layer and red to show the power of Nature. The message "Live in harmony with Nature. Do not hurt it."
For a cause
Hilaricas 2006 was an inter-collegiate event with a difference. Organised by the students of Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, the event was a confluence of cultural, literary and visual arts all supporting a social cause.
Tricycles, callipers, sewing machines, musical instruments like the violin and sruthi boxes and Braille machines were given away to the disabled. The college trust also pledged to take care of the entire education expenses for a year of two needy children. Actress Asin was there from tinsel town to give away the gifts and this is what she had to say: "Words are few when the heart is full."
Innovative show
Back to the fashion show. The theme was `wealth from waste' and the biochemistry students from Vellalar College stole the show with their innovative designs created from waste clothes.
The mantra for success sincerity, hard work and dedication and Government Law College students explained it in cool blues and striking reds. As the girls from Krishnammal College took to the stage, the theme was `fashion fusion', a blend of traditional designs and Western styles.
Sarees paired up with cotton tops, ethnic dhotis with denim jackets and skirts with kurtis, all set to redefine fashion trends.
The yellow metal as always made a fashion statement.
In the host performance that followed, girls decked up in traditional Kerala sarees sported chunky and lightweight jewellery, sponsored by Kota Jewellers. Singer Prasanna entertained the audience with songs from the movies Thavamaai thavamirindhu and Saravana.
The students and the staff breathed life into the festival and ensured all went well. Creativity of the students came to the fore as they sang, danced, did facial painting and applied mehendi.
There was also a huge crowd that cheered lustily for the participants. Athena and Apollo (Mr and Miss Hilaricas) was the grand finale.
