Payal Jain has found inspiration in white this spring
|
Few designers have been able to bring their personal grace into their collection consistently. Payal Jain is one of the rare ones who has been doing it for years and her latest Spring Summer collection is no exception.
Called "Blanc", here she has worked with white, one of the difficult colours to work with for it doesn't provide the space to hide one's weaknesses, Payal has proved it's worth a risk. Payal forte has always been draping, surface treatment and finish and this time using chikankari, zardozi, kantha, aari, daraz and appliqué on clean clear Western silhouettes she has accentuated the effect without losing out on the key element - lightness. She has used miniscule bugle beads in orange, red, purple, indigo and lime enhancing the weave and texture.
Victorian corsets, kaftans, wrap skirts and dhoti pants are some of the attractions. There is interesting use of singular floral motifs, which has been a rage this season, worldwide. On the imminent onslaught of fashion brands in India, Payal says not all who design western clothing would be affected. "My silhouettes may be largely western but I use Indian designs and embellishments a lot. It's those who are into simplistic stuff like shirts and skirts who would feel the heat when international brands will sell their stuff at competitive prices."
