A spoken word performance by Lucy English on March 1
|
As part of the Buzz series, The British Council and Hutch in association with the Taj Connemara, Barista and Unwind Center, are presenting a spoken word performance by Lucy English on March 1, 7 p.m., at the British Council, 737, Anna Salai. This is the last of The Spoken Word series. Lucy, performance poet and novelist, has three novels Selfish People, Our Dancing Days and Children of Light to her credit, and is currently working on her fourth.
She is a part-time tutor in English and Creative Writing at the Bath Spa University College, and is committed to introducing performance poetry into the syllabus. She performs regularly in Bristol and London and has appeared at several international festivals including the British Poetry Festival, Glastonbury Festival Poetry and Words Tent, Tour of Holland, and the Edinburgh Festival. Her work is featured in the "Oral" anthology (Sceptre 2000) and "Shortfuse" (2002).
Lucy will also conduct a workshop titled "Focussing on Language" for school students on March 2, 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Her workshops are devised to encourage the exploration of different types of language statements, questions, exclamations and commands, thus empowering participants to write a performance poem.
Passes are available at the British Council and Hutch Shops on a first-come-first-served basis.
