She has attitude and presence and the selectors did not hesitate to snap her up. Presenting Pooja Ramachandran, one of the new VJs for SS Music Channel

SITTING WITTY Pooja Ramachandran , one of the new VJs on SS Channel
She still holds the Miss Coimbatore title won in 2004. Last year, she was in the limelight with her runner-up title in Miss Kerala. This year, Pooja Ramachandran is the new VJ on the block and she is all set to woo you with your favourite songs on the Southern Spice Music Channel (SS Music Channel).
She is one of the four finalists selected from a pan-South India search exercise titled `The VJ Factor 2' conducted by SS Music.
"I made it just by being myself in the talent rounds," says Pooja but is quick to add that while being a VJ may seem like a piece of cake, there's more to it than just acting silly.
"Making people laugh is not that easy. Command over the language, communication skills and knowledge on a variety of subjects is vital," she adds.
Pooja regularly updates herself on current affairs and trends. Spontaneity, sense of humour, attitude and style is what a VJ is all about, she says.
Pooja believes that such talent shows provide the right platform for all those aspiring to be a part of the media industry.
The VJ Factor 2 commenced in October 2005 and completed its event schedule across Bangalore, Coimbatore, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Chennai. The talent hunt was open to people in the age group of 18-28 years with skills and the right attitude to become a successful Video Jockey.
The hunt lasted over five months and involved 3000 contestants and multi-level elimination screening. Apart from the main rounds, there were also special contests for all participants.
Grabbing attention
Pooja quite literally whistled her way into the final rounds! It was her whistling that grabbed the selectors' attention.
"I think it was just sheer luck. I just whistled and got through to the stage auditions. Three of us were selected and the finals were conducted in Chennai with the other short-listed candidates from the rest of the southern regions," she adds. The finalists from each of the seven cities hosted three shows each on Southern Spice Music - Reachout, Connect and Backwards, to win the viewers' vote via SMS. The final 10 were selected based on voting and were given a complete makeover.
The final four winning contestants were selected on the basis of their attitude, spontaneity, style, humour, knowledge of music and multilingual skills.
Pooja says that the VJs of SS channel helped the contestants to fine-tune the presentation skills.
"They told us to avoid using, `ooos', `aaas' and `ands'. All the shows are live except Backwards. Even in such shows that stick to a script, they would tell us to just glance through the script and be natural on the show," she adds.
For the army officer's daughter who is currently doing her final year visual communication, the priorities are very clear.
"A lot of new programmes are being planned and I want to give my 100 per cent to VJing," she adds.
