KHANA WITH KHIDMAT The restaurant chef poses with an array of dishes available at Khidmat

One word that depicts Indian hospitality is `khidmat'. And one restaurant that is trying to live up to this reputation is, well, Khidmat, a brand new address in Kalkaji. Or rather, it is trying to live up to its name.

Ashish Kumar, the owner of this newly opened multi-cuisine bistro, says, "We are getting an overwhelming response from the customers." Happy with the results, he already has plans to open a bar in it this April. And not just that, he is planning to set up a similar bistro in Noida too.

As for the fare available at Khidmat, let's start with its list of refreshing starters. The menu includes jal zeera, lassi manpasand (a smooth drink of churned yoghurt, served salted, sweet or with masala), nimbu pani soda and fresh fruit juice - the usual suspects but all quite yummy.

Tempting mocktails

Khidmat's menu card also has a good collection of mocktails. Choose your glass - Cinderella (a blend of orange juice, pineapple juice and lime juice), Mango Lina, Guava Thunder or Mango Mood to suggest a few.

Even the soups are delicious. One can have sweet corn chicken soup, hot and sour chicken soup, chicken lemon coriander soup or tomato egg drop soup. And the vegetarians can pick from sweet corn vegetable soup, hot and sour vegetable soup and cream of tomato soup.

The main course again has a wide array of choices. The non-vegetarian section has tandoori murg, lahsuni murg tikka, khaas seekh kabab, murg saagwala (chicken and spinach cooked with home ground spices), murg masala, saag meat, keema lababdar among other dishes. The vegetarians can have tandoori bharwan aloo, shahi paneer, palak paneer, paneer butter masala, dum aloo Kashmiri, pindi chana, and of course, dal shaan-khidmat (black lentil and red beans cooked overnight on tandoor, finished with butter and cream) to name some of the dishes.

If you are a Chinese food lover, you can be sent back home happy too. Salt and pepper chicken, chilly chicken, chicken Manchurian, authentic Szechwan chicken are on the menu for the non-vegetarians. The vegetarians have the choice of chilli paneer, vegetable Manchurian, chilli mushrooms.

Diners can round off their meal on a sweet note with gulab jamun, rasmalai, cassata, ice cream with hot chocolate sauce.
