MAKING THE CONNECT Rachana Damam believes art must communicate with the spectator
Rachana J. Damam is a young artist on the make. She works with acrylic colours as well as watercolours, oil and charcoal pencils.
Rachana, an M.V.A. in Painting from Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, has been awarded the 2005 State Award by the Karnataka Lalitakala Academy.
She is concerned with her "diary" when painting. "It is about looking at my diary. When I say diary, it could be personal notes or ideas that I have visualised but not expressed."
Rachana believes art must communicate with the spectator even as it should stand up to the rigours of quality. She is influenced by a host of artists though she likes the works of J.M.S. Mani and S.G. Vasudev.
Rachana plans an exhibition of her works in April at the Chitrakala Parishath. For information on Rachana's works, contact the artist at Damam House, 57, I Main Road, Bhairaveshwaranagar, Nagarbhavi Road or call 2321-4391/98807-75740 or email rachana_damam@yahoo.com
