Sameera Reddy on why she is game for different roles, even negative ones

HEADY MIX OF FILMS Sameera Reddy

It's late in the evening when Sameera Reddy settles down to talk. Amidst a gruelling schedule for her Telugu film "Ashok", she tells us that she has a heady mix of films on her plate. Post the national premiere of Taxi no.9211, Sameera shared her thoughts on films and family in an interview.

A calculated risk

I was greatly impressed with Taxi no. 9211's script. But as an actor, it was a tough choice to make since I was approached for a negative character. But then, I've never stuck to doing a particular kind of role. So I consented. The risk has paid off. I'm getting a lot of positive responses. The film has been inspired by Changing Lanes, but it is different as Nana (Patekar) has added various dimensions to it.

Time for introspection

My confidence level has increased since my first film. A few days ago, my sister Sushama (Reddy) said that while I was in college, she doubted if I'd make a name for myself. But somewhere down the line, my family knew I'd become an actress. I haven't disappointed them. I've never been compelled to take the `right' decisions. My selection of films has been instinctive. Recently, I turned down a big film because I wasn't convinced. Even earlier, I refused Lagaan and Mohabbatein because I simply wasn't ready to get into acting.

No time to breathe

I'm working on a number of projects... Naksha with Vivek Oberoi where I'm a TV presenter, Fool and Final where I'm a new-age Basanti, Priyadarshan's new film, Benaam with Ajay Devgan, and Tigmanshu Dhulia's Ghulami which unravels the story of Hoshyar Singh through a contemporary theme. Dada (Buddhadeb Dasgupta) has offered me his next Bengali film after Kaalpurush but I don't know if I'll be able to do it.

It's getting hectic nowadays (laughs). Luckily, I took time off and spent the New Year at Greece with my sister Meghna (Reddy). I rarely get time off, but when I do, I don't mind playing scrabble all day with my family.
