Another feather in Punnami's cap

The new block of Punnami guest house exudes a distinct charm and is an enticing treat to visitors, says G. Ravikiran

NEW ATTRACTION Efforts are on to make the new venue a hub of activities Photo: Ch. Vijaya Bhaskar

The well-groomed lawns uplift the spirits of holidaymakers and fun-seekers thronging the Berm Park, the Bhavani Island Resort and the Punnami Guest House. Another attraction coming up in the verdant surroundings is a single-storied concrete structure.

Located beside the path leading to the jetty from where boats begin their journey towards the picturesque island, the new block has eight suits. The unique experience of taking in the soothing surroundings from the balcony of a suite provides a sense of contentment. An air-conditioned conference hall with a capacity to accommodate 150 members is sure to attract corporate houses, marriage parties and others seeking a perfect ambience for hi-fi functions. Such is the charm exuded by the place that a couple of companies and a local college held their functions recently even before the air condition was put in place. The AP Tourism Development Corporation is hoping that the new attraction will pull more crowds to the Berm Park.

Aesthetic needs

It is proposed to develop the conference hall into a multi-purpose auditorium for hosting get-togethers, small functions, marriages or college functions. Many Jain and Marwari organisations have already begun to make use of the facility.

The divisional office of the tourism development corporation presently located opposite PWD grounds will soon be shifted to the new venue, according to its divisional manager K.V. Venkateswara Rao. The tourism officials feel that operating from the 800 square feet allotted for the new office make a world of difference, as it would enable them to keep constant and close watch on the corporation activities.

To cater to the aesthetic needs of the visitors, the corporation proposes to set up a `souvenir shop' which will include a wide range of products from Kondapalli, Lepakshi and Nirmal. The mesmerising Kondapali toys that have always stirred the imagination of tourists, will now invite visitors to lend their drawing room a creative touch.

The corporation is leaving no stone unturned to transform the place into a tourist destination. The collective charm of the park, the guesthouse and the island resort is sure to entice nature-lovers in the coming days. Besides efforts to rope in corporate bodies to put to use the new structure, efforts are also on to provide wholesome entertainment to families and large crowds expected to swarm the place for fun activities like get-togethers, meetings, snack functions on the boats, large-scale functions in the lush green lawns and most importantly, for an exhilarating experience on the island perched on the undulating waters of Krishna.
