Pregnancy is the time when the mother-to-be watches her waistline expand and her stylish clothes hibernate in the cupboard. Style Gallery by Anshu Jhunjhunwala is the newest among the stores selling precisely easy and affordable maternity wear.
Comfort and style
Anshu's brand, Motherhood, combines comfort, fit, style, and a fashionable look to compliment the changing mothers-to-be. Although the range is a bit limited as of now, the clothes come in a variety of colours. Dresses in corduroy with sequined collars look very elegant and are priced at Rs. 1,850. These are eveningwear and come in pink, green and navy. Says Anshu: "I have used comfortable fabric to ensure that the women don't feel itchy. For those seeking casual wear, there is a line of dresses in cotton." The dresses come in different styles such as straps, sequins on the neckline, centre pockets, trinkets like shells, mother of pearl pieces and Japanese motifs on the neckline. These can be coupled with a soft, comfortable T-shirt or a coordinated shirt.
Easy on the pocket
Anshu has also designed a range of coordinated shirts and inners with tiebacks to give the expectant mother's body a form. To go along with these are trousers specifically Indian.
They come in adjustable elastics so that the trousers last through the pregnancy. The trousers, which are available in black currently, are priced at Rs. 650 a pair. Says Anshu: "People tend to spend less during the pregnancy as they feel that the clothes may not be used later. We have kept that in mind while going in for the pricing." The trousers, however, can also be worn after the birth of the baby, as can the comfortable feeding sets comprising a knee-length housecoat with openings on the sides and matching pyjamas.
For the more formal, evening look, one can pick up bust-cut tops that are loose on the waist. Available in comfortable chiffons and georgettes, these are beautifully embroidered and sequinned and complete the chic look for pregnant women who may like to party once in a while.
