GOING GREEN Élé celebrates the natural diversity of nature
Celebrating the diversity of natural vegetation of Bangalore, two young artists Sheetal and Sai Darshan are presenting some unique perspectives on nature in an exhibition titled Élé (meaning "leaf" in Kannada). Their works, which bear a delicate sculptural façade, evoke both the fragility and firmness seen in the stem of a plant, a blade of grass and the petals of a flower.
Sheetal has completed MFA from the College of Fine Arts, Chitrakala Parishat, and runs her own design studio in Ulsoor. Having developed an interest in textures from her college days, she was encouraged by her mentors, Choodamani Nandagopal and Sutradhar, to explore the creative possibilities of different mediums. Abandoning the more conventional medium of painting, she now takes on the arduous but exciting material of resin and fibre to mould her art.
Sai Darshan, who was born in Bangalore but was educated in New Delhi, holds a degree in Applied Art from Delhi College of Art with specialisation in photography. She has now returned to Bangalore and has been working under the guidance of well-known photographer Pallon Daruwala. While her oeuvre covers portraits, fashion and abstract images, her primary source of inspiration comes from natural objects and landscape.
The exhibition opens on March 8 and continues till March 12 at Abstract Art Gallery, Cunningham Road. For details, call 98862-96399 or 98861-98125.
