CrossRoads is likely to prove a challenge to other engineering college fetes in the coming years

CLEAN SWEEP Members of the CET team campaigning for their broomstick
Another festival. Another engineering college. What remained constant was the enthusiasm of the students and the participants.
CrossRoads, the annual cultural festival of Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology, popularly known as MBT, was held on the college premises. The fete registered a huge attendance from colleges in and around the city. What added glitz to the glamour was the huge prize money that was on offer. There were prizes worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs to be won.
Constellations
This year CrossRoads was celebrating the theme `constellations,' and it was made sure that everything, ranging from the fancy names of the events to the certificates, carried the mark of the great constellations of the night sky. "The various cultural events were fraught with stiff competition," says Anila A of College of Engineering, Trivandrum, "and it seems that colleges have realised the importance and value of performing well at such fetes."
CET lifted the overall trophy this year. The events were the usual ones but it had attractive innovations and twists. `Sirius,' the competition for the best manager, was won by Pranav Kumar S. who says, "The best manager at Crossroads was an erudite version of its self and it was a neck-and-neck contest. My tactic was to try to stick to the book and not try anything absurdly new."
"Perhaps the most competed event at CrossRoads was Communique - the adzap. An eight-member CET team was sent around the campus advertising and campaigning for a broomstick," remarks Aswin J whose team won the first place. Simply Complex - a test dose of riddles for the brain, and media tycoon, a simulation of a TV channel replete with new programmes, were some of the new events. The event had enough days of preparation time and submissions were made on CD. Cirinius - photos and frames - was another attraction of CrossRoads. Many interesting photographs were submitted. Kiran R of UCK who secured second for the event was all praise for the inclusion of the event. The treasure hunt was yet another major attraction of this year .
Says Krishnakumar Srivastava whose team stood second, "We were made to run around the city for three to four hours when the treasure was right inside the campus. It was funwalking around Gandhi Park and Museum searching for clues and leads."
For the first time mobile phone short codes were used to conduct the treasure hunt. The clues directing the teams to subsequent locations were obtained via mobile phone. ACV Mobile and TNGicube powered the interesting new technology.
`Andromeda' and `Leo,' the personality contest, was well received by the audience. CrossRoads is all set to challenge other fetes in the city.
