Penning her thoughts
Television anchor Shenaz Treasurywala entered films with Ishq Vishq. But more than Shenaz, the film helped Shahid Kapur and Amrita Rao to get a foothold in Bollywood. The television hostess took a sabbatical from films since then and is now resurfacing with Umar co-starring Jimmy Shergill. We quizzed her on movies and television when she visited Hyderabad recently.
On Umar: The film talks about finding a meaning to your life, irrespective of your age. Jimmy Shergill joins hands with Kader Khan, Satish Kaushik and Pran to fight for a cause, and I am Jimmy's love interest. It's a film that people can identify with.
On her career: Soon after Ishq Vishq I got a lot of offers, really. But I didn't like any of them. I didn't want to be associated with any of those sex comedies that were popular at that time. So I just waited for good offers. After Umar, there are two more projects for which discussions are on.
On her new script: I did a script writing course in New York and recently, I wrote a script in English. A director has shown interest to make it into a film. It's a slice of life story about three women, their lives, work and relationships. Hey no, it's not on the lines of The Bridget Jones' Diary. All the three characters have some aspects of my life in them.
On being a writer: I write occasionally on travel for magazines. Writing is therapeutic and helps me put my thoughts together. The course in Mass Communication I did while in Singapore has helped me a lot.
On television: Television and films are two different ball games, but a stint with the small screen has made me a better actor. I feel confident in front of the camera. I like to do people centric shows but can't associate with reality shows and weepy soaps.
What next: I've conceptualised a unique travel show and am talking to a few channels about it. Travel shows get a lot of viewership these days but are very expensive to make. Let's see how my project goes.
