NASSER
The books that have left a deep impact on me: I got into the reading habit quite late in life. One of the first books I read was Richard Bach's "Jonathan Livingston Seagull". At first read, I was not too impressed. But at the behest of my friend, I went back to it. And have done so many times ever since. It changed my life and the way I think. The works of Sundara Ramaswamy too have left an impact.
My favourite authors: Nobody in particular. I read all kinds of books, science fiction or non-fiction. However, I loved certain titles by Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and Sundara Ramaswamy.
Current read: I just finished re-reading "Singarevva and the Palace," by Kannada writer Chandrashekara Kambara, translated into English by Laxmi Chandrashekar.
One book I'd recommend as a must read: I don't think I am in a position to recommend any one book. But I appeal to youngsters to read translations of regional literature. It helps us understand our fellow beings better, and provides fresh insights into the cultural nuances of different States.
If you could have dinner with one writer: Arthur C. Clarke. In fact when I went to Colombo recently, I tried to contact him but failed. I want to ask him why he chose to settle down in Sri Lanka.
