Sutra will hold a show from March 22 to 24

Shibori, a Japanese method of dyeing will be one of the attractions at the Sutra show at Jhalak boutique in Panampilly Nagar. The exhibition will be on from March 22 till 24. Sutra products are the brainchild of Assam born textile designer Julie Kagti. The fashion line is a fusion of modern styles and traditional techniques. Says Ms. Katgi, "There is a need within me, to create designs and products which are aesthetically appealing, contemporary in style and with a bit of humour."

So she began to give expression to her desire in July 2000 at Bangalore. Her products are created using various textile techniques of weaving, printing, resist dyeing and embroidery, all of which is handcrafted. And along with clothing, accessories and saris Sutra brings a home line collection for the first time.

So there is a range of handcrafted products in contemporary style with a comfortable and feminine look to choose from. Only natural fabrics like cotton, linen and chanderi have been used in this collection. The sari collection consist of handwoven colourful cotton saris, soft Dhaka tangail saris with metallic thread work, chanderi saris with Kantha work and a few shibori, which is a Japanese method of resist dyeing, silk saris. The clothing line is a blend between modern aesthetics and age-old intricate textile techniques to create a non co-ordinate look that can be mix matched. The home range consists of placement sets with intricate handwork, bright silk cushion covers, tie-dye and hand embroidered products. There are fun woven ribbon runners and exclusive bedcover sets in silk. The prices of the products range from Rs. 450 to Rs.5, 000.
