3121
Prince/Universal
The pop genius and funk legend recently organised a listening session in NYC, at the same time when London Listening parties happened. These for his forthcoming release, his UMG debut, 3121 that hits music stands today.
The album is classic Prince, a grand return to funk but with a fresh contemporary feel. It promises mid tempo funk jam, up-tempo synth-dominated melodic pop, space-age electro-funk and more.
Both Sides of the Gun
Ben Harper/EMI
It isn't a double album, just side A and B, says the artiste about the twin disc set. "It's only just over an hour's worth of music, so it's not a case of not editing my work or mid-career megalomania. One half is as raw and loose as anything I've ever done and the other half is as introspective and intimate as I've ever gotten. They clearly didn't fit together on one disc. The music demanded to be separated."
The work is touted as his most relaxed music till date. "The first five records were experiments and we got real lucky with some freewheeling ideas. I feel this is the album on which I've finally applied everything I've learned."
The first single from the album is a feel-good Indian tinged folk rocker. Lend a ear.
